Judaica aus der Sammlung Ariel Muzicant

Die Judaica-Sammlung Ariel Muzicant spiegelt im Besonderen die Bandbreite jüdischer Geschichte im Habsburger Reich mit Wien als Zentrum wider. Die ausgewählten Objekte zeigen die Entwicklung der Wiener Judenschaft vom Toleranzpatent Joseph II. aus dem Jahr 1782, über die Errichtung des Stadttempels, die Schaffung des „Wiener Ritus’“, die Konsolidierung der Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde, über Emanzipation und Gleichstellung, die florierende Gemeinde in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. und im ersten Drittel des 20. Jahrhunderts bis hin zu ihrer Zerstörung durch die Schoa.

The Judaica from the Ariel Muzicant Collection reflects in particular the spectrum of Jewish history in the Habsburg Empire with Vienna at the center. The selected objects showcase the development of Vienna’s Jews from Joseph II’s 1782 Edict of Tolerance through the building of the Stadttempel, the creation of the “Wiener Ritus“ (Viennese rite), the consolidation of the Jewish Community (IKG), through emancipation and equality, the flourishing community during the second half of the 19th century and the first third of the 20th century all the way to its destruction in the Shoah.
